PRIMERA PARADA

La Prehistoria: Obras icónicas pre-etiqueta “Horror”

- Inferno (1911) - italiana, adaptación de la Divina Comedia

- Das Cabinet Des Dr. Caligari (1920) - no basada en un libro precedente como casi todas sus contemporáneas, sentó muchas bases del género

- Nosferatu (1922) y Faust (1926) de Murnau

SEGUNDA PARADA

El primer subgénero: MONSTERS y algunas otras cosillas entre medio

The Universal Classic Monsters (y el nacimiento de las primeras franquicias del cine)

- las Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1913) (1920) (1931) (1941) - están bien

- las The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) (1939) - están bien

- las The Phantom of the Opera (1925) (1943) - no me gustaron, pero no me gusta la historia

- The Man Who Laughs (1928) - no particularmente memorable

- Frankenstein (1931) / Bride of Frankenstein (1935) / Son of Frankenstein (1939) / The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942) / House of Frankenstein (1944) - las 2 primeras muy buenas, el resto de pasar por alto. Nos dejó las mil veces repetida frase “it’s alive, alive!!!” y kick-off de la gran carrera de Karloff

- Dracula (1931) / Dracula's Daughter (1936) / Son of Dracula (1943) / House of Dracula (1945) - la primera bastante bien, las otras malas, más memorable Lugosi y su frase “listen to them, the creatures of the night” que la película

- Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932) - no la ví

- The Old Dark House (1932) - nah

- The Mummy (1932) (1959) / The Mummy's Hand (1940) / The Mummy's Tomb (1942) / The Mummy's Ghost (1944) / The Mummy's Curse (1944) - bien la primera, las otras exactamente igual que la primera, viste una viste todas

- The Invisible Man (1933) / The Invisible Man Returns (1940) / The Invisible Woman (1940) / Invisible Agent (1942) / The Invisible Man's Revenge (1944) - muy bien la primera, la segunda más floja, después más de lo mismo

- King Kong (1933) - que decir de esta..

- Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) - dedo arriba para esta

- The Black Cat (1934) - interesante el versus entre Karloff y Lugosi

- Werewolf of London (1935) - meh, no

- The Raven (1935) - Lugosi vs Karloff, “veible”

- The Wolf Man (1941) / She-Wolf of London (1946) / Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943) - todas olvidables

- The Body Snatcher (1945) - gran actuación de Karloff

- Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) / Revenge of the Creature (1955) / The Creature Walks Among Us (1956) - King Kong mas pequeño y bajo el agua

Y la fase “exploitation” con Abbott and Costello Meet ….zaraza (fines 40s hta fines 50s)

The Hammer Gothic Horror (revival de monsters): del otro lado del charco, o “from across the pond”, la productora Hammer, inglesa, trajo la segunda ola de películas, aunque menos exitosa que la primera.

- The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) y otras 6 más - buena la primera, dejando mása claro que el villano es Frankenstein, aún no ví las otras

- Horror of Dracula (1958) - entre 1958 y 1976 Lee protagonizó 10 películas como Dracula - malas con ganas para mi gusto, al menos las 3 primeras que ví

- The Mummy (1959) - bien

- House of Wax (1953) - remake de la de Universal con Price de protagonista, está bien pero es exactamente la misma película

- The Raven (1963) - con algo de humor y Vincent Price vs Boris Karloff, está bien

- The Last Man on Earth (1968) - nuevamente Price que protagoniza, muy bien. Luego del mismo libro hicieron The Omega Man (1971) y I’m Legend (2007)

Actores icónicos de esta era que hoy son leyenda:

Universal

- Lon Chaney - el primero que protagonizó muchas hta 1930 cuando murió de cáncer, ej. Phantom of the Opera. Lon Chaney Jr. hizo The Wolf Man

- Bela Lugosi - el primer Dracula y muchos otros

- Boris Karloff - la criatura en Frankenstein, la momia en The Mummy,  y muchos más

Hammer

- Vincent Price - hizo muchísimas y se convirtió en un ícono del género también, muchas de Poe junto a Roger Corman

- Peter Cushing - acompañó a Chris Lee, o mejor al revés en realidad, en los roles complementarios a las criaturas

- Christopher Lee - la criatura de Frankenstein, la momia en The Mummy y Dracula, era como Karloff y Lugosi en uno

TERCERA PARADA

El terror se establece como una pieza fundamental del 7mo arte y en las décadas de los 60s y 70s se produce  la expansión del género en más subgéneros. Aquí listamos algunos de los exponentes que marcaron la cancha y otras grandes obras memorables que les siguieron.
